Reviews of our home from home...

Our guests say the nicest things…

When a property is gated, you know it's going to be good! Set in picturesque surroundings, we were spoilt by the luxury and comfort of this beautiful, well thought out holiday cottage. It felt more like home than anywhere we have ever stayed. With it's spacious lay out, it was perfect for our family which included an 11 month old and some furry friends as well. We chose the cottage for it's rural location as we wanted to explore some of the less commercialised parts of the Lake District. We were spoilt for choice and although needed a car to get to most places, the views were spectacular. We will certainly be visiting again! Dom, the owner was also very organised and always on hand to answer any questions. Very good value I must say and comfy beds too!

I cannot praise the property and the owners highly enough for ensuring that our stay at The Badger Sett was a memorable one.

Many times in life you read descriptions and see photographs that overstate, with The Badger Sett it was the opposite. The cottage is incredibly spacious, decorated and finished to a very high standard, and has all the mod cons without them feeling out of place in the Lake District. To use hotel terminology, this is a 5 star property.

The cottage was imaculately clean on arrival with helpful instructions provided. The communication from the owners before, during and after booking was excellent and any questions we had were answered instantly. We will be booking again in the near future, and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending The Badger Sett as a lovely holiday location.

Well where do we start? Perhaps with the super clean well appointed house, or the soft and comfy beds, or perhaps the posh bathroom and extra shower room for my huge teenagers or even should I mention the close access to mountain bike trails. I must not forget to tell you all about the lovely walk to the next village with the micro brewery and the delicious beer as well as their child friendly welcome, also the canoe and swimming adventure on derwent water. Booths in nearby Keswick is a treat filled supply of foods and gave us fodder for the walks and river swimming in Rosthwaite Black Moss Pot. Well anyway wherever we start it all ends with an amazing stay at the Badger Sett. We will defiantly book this lovely cosy house again and just so you don’t believe all the hype about it being wet in the lake district we had dry sunny days enjoying barbecues outside on two evenings watching the sun dip whilst sipping wine in the garden. Can’t recommend it more highly.

We had never been to this part of the Lake District before but we weren’t disappointed. Its beautiful and much quieter than the other areas we’ve been too. Hesket Newmarket (we particularly liked The Crown!) and Caldbeck are lovely villages and we went for as many lovely walks as we could cram in to a long weekend. The house itself is wonderful – a bit like a posh hotel – beautifully furnished and lots of room to escape our young children when they got a bit rowdy. We can’t wait to go back – just hope we can go for longer next time.

We have just returned from a fantastic week away at the Badger Sett. The accommodation is really well laid out, with the living accommodation at one end of the property and the bedrooms at the other end. All the rooms are really spacious, especially the master bedroom. It was really easy to find the property and took about an hour and fifteen minutes to get there from Preston. Although the property felt remote it was within easy reach of places like Keswisk, Carlisle and Penrith. We had great fun exploring all the local villages, Caldbeck is beautiful and the village of Hesket Newmarket was only a 20 minute walk away. The local pub was a delight although if you want to eat there you should definately book a day or two in advance. Would definately recommend staying at the Badget Sett.

We have returned from a fabulous break at Badger Sett. There were four adults, one baby and a toddler. The cottage catered perfectly for our needs. It is finished and to a excellent standard, with beautifully decorated and furnished bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas. The mix of contemporary design and soft furnishing provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The cottage is set in a private and secure garden ideal for playing, relaxing and outdoor eating. The cottage is surounded by stunning views and within a short and pretty walk to the village, with friendly locals, a nice pub, tea shop and park. Some great walks were enjoyed from this village and we look forward to our next visit.

Although only a short stay it was a delightful one.

The principal reason for the trip was to get out on a good mountain bike ride. Our ride was an all day epic starting from the front door and out over the fells, finishing in the pub in Hesket Newmarket just down the road. It was great to explore fells I’ve never visited before and a special mention should go to the Old Crown Pub in Hesket Newmarket for its great ale.

The accommodation was clean and bright and surprisingly spacious. The cottage is approached up a drive that keeps you nicely away from the road and leads to a paved area which looks like a good spot to eat outside, although we didn’t on this stay, preferring to walk back to the pub instead.
Living room has a lovely view across the paved area to the trees on the valley side opposite. The cottage had a good sized modern kitchen and bathrooms which looked to have been recently refurbished, comfy bed and nice garden.

I intend to visit again with family later this year.

The Badger’s Sett has everything you could want from a luxury holiday home, and a little bit more! The house is beautifully furnished in a modern meets traditional way and makes the most of the stunning views across the fells.

A short walk (15 mins) to the local village gets you to one of the quaintest pubs I’ve ever come across, with home-brewed ales and traditional pub food. The village also has a little shop, which seems to stock things you would never have expected!

All in all, it provided a wonderful place to stay for a quiet retreat – a beautiful location, a lovely house (felt like home after only three days!), and beds and a shower to die for!
Thoroughly recommended!!

The Badger Sett provided perfect accommodation for our family group of six adults. The property more than met our expectations, being clean and spacious throughout. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms fitted with all the mod cons one might hope for. Although it is on the northern edge of the Lake District, its location is still excellent for a variety of outdoor activities and other attractions. For example, we went up Scafell Pike one day but were still back in plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely evening meal. We would like to thank the owner for the helpful, thoughtful and prompt communications both before and after our stay. We are in total agreement with the positive and well deserved reviews already published and have no hesitation at all in recommending The Badger Sett to others.
